I would like to dedicate this post to my mom, on this beautiful Sunday morning: Mother's day!
There are so many things I can thank my mom for. She raised me and my sisters with so much kindness, patience, and love. She has always been proud of us, with everything we do.
One of the things that I want to thank my mom for is the way that she has always encouraged me to be creative. She always made sure I had supplies available when I was little, and never got upset with the monstrous messes I made as a result. She didn't even get upset when one morning she saw that I had drawn with crayon on my bedroom wall during the night when I couldn't sleep!
I remember being eight years old and my mom took me to Artists Emporium to buy my first set of high quality paints and brushes. I felt so proud when my mom told the shop assistant that I was an artist. We piled the basket full of oil paints and I quickly got to work, making many smudgy, messy creations..
When I was seventeen, I asked my mom for a desk that I could use for painting and drawing. We found a wonderful unfinished table and decided to buy some stain and milk paint to make it even more beautiful. We stained and painted it together and ten years later, I still like to draw and paint at it. It sits out in my screened porch and I can work with a view of the river.
My mom encouraged me to follow my dream of going to Sheridan College to study Illustration, and has always helped me in any way that she can. She never questioned whether I was talented enough or whether I should follow some other career path. She always wanted me to do what makes me happiest What would I do without her?!.
So I've created this painting for my mom. Thank you for your patience, kindness, and for always being there for me and my sisters.
